Shiraz Urban Railway Organization
Preliminary studies of Shiraz public transportation system were carried out by a foreign consultant in 1976 and then new studies of Shiraz city were carried out by a group of university faculty members in 1990 confirming the need to use railway network as the development of public transportation system.
In order to complete and compile comprehensive studies of Shiraz public transportation, previous studies were reviewed in 1999 and suitable routes for metro lines were presented and finally the best option selected.
Shiraz urban railway organization was established in 2001 and the executive operation of Shiraz metro line 1 started in 2002.
6 metro lines has been considered for Shiraz, of which only one line has been commissioned so far. This line is 24.5 km long and its 5-car trains are approximately 100 meters long. Specifications of Shiraz metro lines are given in the following table:
Line | Length (km) | No. of Stations | No. of Trains Required |
